TEKSKIL Broadcast Products was founded in 1981 by a group of engineers who believed there had to be a better way.
The idea began with a practical production challenge. A large corporate training department was struggling with video projects that routinely ran over schedule and over budget. The reason quickly became clear: presenters were forgetting or stumbling over scripts, resulting in countless retakes and hours of lost production time.
The production team knew an on-camera prompting system could solve the problem, but the available options left a lot to be desired. Existing teleprompters were either massive systems designed for large studios or cumbersome, improvised setups that simply weren’t practical for smaller productions and field use.
A group of engineers saw an opportunity. Rather than adapt what was already available, they set out to design something better from the ground up.
One of TEKSKIL’s first products was the 909 Series — a robust, lightweight monitor prompting system designed specifically for smaller studios and production environments. The response was immediate, with hundreds of systems ordered and a clear demand for more practical, purpose-built prompting technology.
That success led to the 909C, the industry’s first purpose-built computer prompter. Well ahead of its time, the 909C incorporated an onboard plasma display, simultaneous editing and prompting, sophisticated communications for remote feeds, and solid-state cartridge storage for secure scripts.
Demand quickly expanded beyond the United States. TEKSKIL products found their way into broadcast and production environments throughout North America, Europe and the Far East, establishing the company as an innovative force in professional camera and prompting technology.
More than four decades later, that same problem-solving mindset continues to drive TEKSKIL.
